Production of value added mushroom products

Jacqueline's story

JacFresh Mushroom enterprise solves two problems in one: we produce organic, healthy and nutritious mushroom foods and we contribute to environmental sustainability. Our vision is to improve the health of our population and environment through sustainable farming practices that also nourish bodies. We sell fresh, organic mushrooms as well as prepared mushroom foods. We use our mushroom powder to make delicious home-made mushroom bread, vegan kebabs, immune boosting drinks such as kombucha with moringa, fruits and honey, and other organic, healthy and vegan food items. We are a green enterprise committed to sustainability by using recycled sawdust and rice husk for our mushroom production, sparing the environment more greenhouse gases.  We use these materials to make a substrate from which organic fresh mushrooms grow.

Organic mushroom foods strengthen the immune system and support in fighting diseases and viruses, such as COVID-19. Shiitake, for example, is excellent for boosting the  immune system due to its high nutrients, such as B vitamins, vitamin D, selenium, niacin, and 7 of the 8 essential amino acids. Our products are particularly relevant for Ghana’s younger population, who are experiencing a number of health problems due to the popularity of fast, fried and unhealthy foods. This is often because there are few healthier alternatives easily accessible on the market. We want to make healthy, nutritious food, just as accessible as fast food.

We are requesting a total of 8,000 GHS to expand and scale our business. These funds will specifically go towards: expanding the cropping hut of our mushrooms and purchasing necessary equipment needed to scale production.
- 60% of the money raised would be used to buy the machine for bagging mushroom substrate.
- 30% of the money raised would be used to expand the cropping hut of mushrooms.
- 10% of the money would be used as operating expenses for the next 6 months.
